The 407 Student Ministry is made up of students who attend 20 middle schools and high schools in the Winter Park/Orlando area. Our college students attend nearby UCF, Rollins, Valencia, Seminole, and Full Sail.

Our goal is to equip each student to be a campus missionary, because we believe the greatest mission field in America is the middle and high school campus. Everyday our students walk among many unreached students in need of Christ.

Robert Hemphill, Student Minister
I'm a youth pastor, husband to Audra, and dad to James & Jack. Born in Ocala, Florida & later moved to Orlando. Attended Maitland & WPHS. Called to ministry in college and attended Seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas--Now there's a state! My passions are for student ministry and the evangelism of this generation. God called me into ministry to directly minister to students and help equip them to run the race in a way that honors Him. I desire to see this generation carry the torch of missions to the unreached here and abroad.

The Underground came to be after the 2004 Hurricane season when the state of Florida was criss-crossed by hurricanes Charlie, Jean & Francis. The storms brought about much rain and the water table rose so far above normal that the outside walls and foundation of the basement were overcome with water pressure. The entire basement, used at that time for educational space by the church, took on water over the course of the next several months. The entire space had to be gutted from stairwell to stairwell.

The basement lay dormant for a year due to the flowing water and to see the longer term effects of this damage. In the meantime, a vote to designate its return solely for the use of student ministry was met with great support from the church, parents and students. In 2006, work began to prepare the space for future use. This initial work continued into 2007 until a confident nod was given to move forward with the final project. "It took a long time and a lot of hard work but the wait was well worth the reward." The grand opening was celebrated September 2007, and the space was named "the Underground" by the leaders and students.

The Underground is 8800 square feet with a modern stage area, a cafe that serves pizza/chips/drinks and a variety of breakfast items. There's a conference room, reception area and student ministry offices in this space. The other side includes game tables, 2 pool tables, ping pong, air hockey, stand up shuffle board and 2 foosball tables. If media is your thing then you'll like our 42" plasma screens and 8 individual wall monitors for videos and announcements, and a state of the art sound system kicks out the tunes.

How are parents kept in the loop about events and happenings?

It is our desire to communicate clearly with parents through various avenues. Three ways we communicate are:

1. Get the latest news on events by viewing our Twitter feed, Facebook posts, or our blog. If you have a question, please email rob@407youth.com.

2. Weekly bulletin. Look for the student ministry news section.

3. Through announcements made to students in public forums. We also send them home with written information for certain events.

5 words we hate to hear... "I didn't know about it!"

What is M-Fuge?

Since 2005, we have taken our high school students to M-Fuge. M-Fuge offers missions and ministry opportunities for students and adults. Whatever your talents or gifts, there is a place for you to serve. Throughout the week, track groups go out on mission sites during the day and then come back for free time, dinner, and a worship service with a speaker who has a challenging message. It's a busy day, but it's well worth it!

M-Fuge is for our high school students, grades 9th-12th.

What is Middle School Camp?

Middle School Camp is located at Stetson University in Deland, FL.

A great week to allow students to disconnect from the world and reconnect with God. A fun week that includes crazy team competitions, family group times, morning celebration, free time, youth group time, and a worship service at night. It's a busy day!

Worship services include drama, worship music from some of the best worship leaders in the country, and sound biblical teaching from gifted communicators.

Family groups are an essential element in the personality of the camp. Each family group is made up of 9-12 students, one or two student leaders, and one or two adult leaders. Students spend much of the organized time at camp with their family groups.

What weekly events will be going on this summer for students?

Summer is the most exciting time for our student ministry! Besides M-Fuge, middle school camp, leadership retreats, and fun random events, there is a whole lot going on. We will be meeting every Sunday night for Crew Nights at 6:00 pm, a night of worship, fellowship, and crazy games! On Tuesdays, join us for HS girls and guys bible study. And Thursdays are for Ultimate Frisbee in the Cove.
Click here for more information about summer.

How can I get my student involved in the student ministry?

1. Introduce them to us! We love meeting new students and will be able to connect them with a FUEL group leader.

2. Bring them to our weekly meetings so we can introduce them to our other students!

3. Download a medical release form and have it notarized so that your student is ready to participate in our events!

What is FUEL?

Fuel is a gathering of all our students 6th-12th grade for a brief time of fellowship followed by a video introduction of the bible study lesson. Fuel concludes with a small group time, led by our FUEL Group Leaders, that allows students to break down & discuss the topic.

Our middle school is systematically going through the Old and New Testament.

Our high school is studying deeper theological issues as they learn to defend their faith.

Fuel is a great place to get plugged into our student ministry. Coming on a regular basis allows you to meet new people and get to know those in your small group. We have the best small group leaders in Orlando!
